Contact EMHPP as soon as you receive a letter from your landlord stating that you are in danger of eviction for not paying your rent.
A mother and son, both of whom have limitations, contacted EMHPP after they had allowed their back rent to climb up to $4,000. After EMHPP's mediation with the landlord, he lowered their monthly rent from $700 to $650 and reduced their back rent to $2,500, to be paid over a 10-month period. With funding from the Connecticut Department of Social Services and the U.S. Community Development Block Grant Emergency Shelter Grant, HRA also paid the landlord $500 towards the total amount of back due rent.
