East Side Community Action

Thousands of people seeking health, housing, child care, general assistance, transportation as well as services for Polish speaking residents and Spanish elders turned to HRA's community and neighborhood offices for help. Linking people to services at HRA or other social services agencies is a primary focus of HRA's staff. Read our Success Story

East Side Community Action - East Side community Action (ESCA) is a group that is working towared becoming an official Neighborhood Revitalization Zone (NRZ) in New Britain. East Side residents are encoraged to participate in a monthly meeting the first Thursday of every month.

Perlas Hispanas - The Perlas Hispanas programs offers a myriad of social services to low-income seniors citizens including health screenings, legal assistance workshops, and recreational activities. Perlas Hispanas also provides homemaker and companion services to homebound elderly and their families

Polish Outreach - Twenty percent of New Britain residents are of Polish descent, making New Britain the largest concentration of people with Polish ancestry in Connecticut. The Polish Outreach program reaches out to the Polish population in an appropriate linguistic and cultural manner.

The primary goal of the Polish Outreach Program is to provide a basic system of intake and referral, as well as outreach and translation in such areas as housing, income maintenance, job training opportunities, energy assistance, health care, child care, and early childhood education programs.

Polish Victim Advocacy - The Polish Victim Advocte provides services to Polish residents of New Britain and surrounding towns.

The primary goal of the Polish Victim Advocacy Program is to aid in the recovery of Polish speaking individuals who have been victims of crime. The Polish Victim Advocacy program offers crisis counseling, criminal justice advocacy and support, translation, transportation to related appointments, emergency legal advocacy, compensation claim assistance, appropriate referrals, and follow-up.

Success Story - A Polish speaking gentleman came into our office recently in dire need of assistance. He suffered from an accident at work that left him permanently disabled and unable to continue working. He did not have medical insurance and did not know how to apply for state medical insurance. With the support of the Polish Outreach counselor, he filled out all the appropriate paperwork including the forms for State Supplement, Medicaid, Food Stamps, and State Administered General Assistance. With help from the Polish Outreach program, he qualified for disability insurance and will soon be receiving this as well as other assistance to cover his food, medical, and living expenses.
