Success Story - In 2001, a nineteen year old pregnant woman on state assistance was referred to the North Central One Stop to participate in a mandated Jobs First program. At the time she was working part-time at a grocery store and her baby was expected due in four months. At the time, the mother had a one-year exemption from the state before having to find work because of her pregnancy. Once the exempt time lapsed, the woman was unresponsive to phone calls and other methods of contact. As a result, she was eventually cut from receiving state assistance.

In 2004, with a second child, the now 22 year-old was at the end of her rope and decided to make needed changes in her life. The Department of Social Services, gave her a second chance, and she worked closely with her case worker. She went to school for an office assistant certificate. She is now employed 30 hours a week, has received Day Care Services at HRA for her youngest, and continues to explore new learning opportunities.
