Success Story - A young mother came into the Energy Office last year desperately needing help paying her utility bills. Her utility bills were well over $1,000 per month and she was unable to make any payments. The case manager helped her obtain WRAP assistance, a program that provides insulation assistance, and she significantly lowered her monthly bills. She also worked with the utility companies to pay off her debts.
The case manager continued working with the mother by helping her create a resume and by coaching her through the job search process. She is now working 30 hours a week, is no longer collecting state assistance and has paid off all of her debt. This is a perfect example of how HRA helped a New Britain resident achieve greater self-sufficiency.
