HRA Cuts Ribbon on New Infant/Toddler Classroom

HRA is excited about opening its new licensed classroom for 8 infants & toddlers at 35 Oak Street in New Britain and will hold the ribbon cutting ceremony there at 9:30am on Wednesday, October 30, 2019. The new infant/toddler classroom complements the 2 existing Head Start classrooms for 3-4 year olds at the facility. Funding was made possible by CHEFA and the United Way of Central & Northeastern CT.

HRA celebrates World AIDS Day this year with a demonstration of sound healing and other tools to help relieve stress. People living with HIV/AIDS take medications to help lengthen their physical lives but they also need help healing their emotional and mental lives.

Free Tax Preparation Still Available

It is not too late for residents to get free, last-minute tax assistance before filing their income taxes this year. HRA is offering tax assistance at tis Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites in Bristol, Farmington, New Britain and Plymouth.

HRA Opens 2 New VITA Sites in Bristol & Plymouth

HRA will open 2 new Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) tax preparation sites in Bristol and Plymouth at the end of January 2018. VITA is an IRS backed program in which volunteers train and become IRS certified to provide free tax return preparation for low to moderate income individuals.

Community Rescues Food Pantry

New Britain residents who depend upon HRA's Food & Resource Center on Osgood Ave are giving thanks for food early this year. HRA is giving thanks to all of the funders and donors who have helped keep the pantry doors open. Without CDBG funding from the city, the pantry was in serious jeopardy of closing.

Toddlers to Help Cut the Ribbon on Playground

HRA will cut the ribbon in 2017 on a project that has been in the making since the building renovation of its Ben Franklin Early Learning Academy in 2009. At that time there was not enough money to install the Toddler/Preschool playground.

Neighborhood Food Pantry May Have to Close

New Britain 1 of 10 Cities Selected for Working Cities Challenge

The City of New Britain has been selected as 1 of 10 winning cities as part of the CT Working Citiies Challenge, a competitive grant competition through the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston that encourages collaboration within the community to develop strategic solutions around improving the economic wellbeing of low-income residents. The project's co-leaders are HRA of New Britain and the Mayor's Office.

New Britain Loses Nathaniel "Nate" Brickhouse

HRA lost its New Britain Food & Resource Center Coordinator but the city also lost a passionate, modest soul with a great big smile, when Nate Brickhouse died last week.
