Neighborhood Fathers Unite

Helping fathers learn how to make a positive impact on their children's lives. Originally called "The Head Start Good Guys" this program began in 1995 just for Head Start fathers. It has since grown to include all fathers and other male family members in the greater New Britain area.

Using the innovative National Fatherhood Initiative curriculum, "24/7 Dads", based upon characteristics of all fathers -
of all cultures, races, religions and backgrounds.

Program Successes

Over the years Dads have learned how to interact positively, how their children develop and how to communicate better with their significant others and children. Support groups have helped them learn how to deal with stress and depression, how to advocate for themselves and how to work with the family court system and DCF. In addition, Dads have learned where to go for help with jobs, energy assistance, eviction prevention and mediation and other services.

Some fathers have become community advocates, active in local politics, joined Boards of Directors, coached little leagues, soccor games and other sports.
