Call to get on waiting list for the Toddler / Preschool Program

“Jennifer” was 2 years old when her mother, “Cynthia” (fictitious names), brought her to HRA’s Toddler/Preschool Program. Cynthia was very worried – she didn’t know what was wrong with Jennifer, she couldn’t find child care and she was about to lose her job.
Jennifer couldn’t hear or speak and was having behavior problems. HRA enrolled Jennifer in the Toddler Program and sent her to a specialized school for testing. Once she was properly diagnosed with a hearing impairment, Connecticut’s Birth to Three Program got hearing aids for Jennifer and helped her use them. This program also installed special equipment in HRA’s classroom to help her hear the teacher. When Jennifer was 3 years old the New Britain Board of Education provided service for language and behavior development until she started public school.
Cynthia was greatly relieved to know that her daughter was receiving quality care in a safe place and that she was able to keep her job. Throughout all the changes to Jennifer’s world, HRA’s nurturing and consistent setting gave her the opportunity to grow.
Jennifer is now 5 years old and in a regular kindergarten classroom in public school. She functions well, her behavior has improved and she now talks.
